I was just asked what my thoughts on drugs are, and decided it would be interesting to write a blog about it as opposed to answer privately (as I believe this is one of the first times I’ve touched on the subject).
From alcohol to over-the-counter/prescription pills to marijuana to the stuff you need to know the right person in order to get, I think the thing that is always overlooked is that it’s selfish.
‘Dangerous’ describes pretty much everything, and there are health risks to too many Baconators, so neither of those are valid reasons to be in opposition to drugs.
However. Using a substance to bring up your mood is solely to your benefit. Sharing doesn’t really reverse that, because more often than not you’re sharing it with the intention of feeling socially accepted.
And I don’t know of many cases where a drunk dial or a high confession has really meant too much to the receiver. At least not what it could have meant if delivered sober and along side a secret box of chocolate.
Is it morally right or wrong? Who am I to say. That opinion should be left up to the individual, not influenced by others.
We all live and learn and hopefully take note of what’s happened to others if we’ve decided we want to start experimenting.
I do agree with keeping it illegal, but not because I think it should remain difficult to purchase for the consumer.
It’s because it would give every corporation a shot at using drugs in their products and manipulating the public into purchasing it.
If “weed” wasn’t selling, market it as “weed brownies”. If that still makes people nervous, switch the brand to “Chocolate Giggles” and refer to weed by more scientific terms under the ingredients.
Drugs may not be as dangerous as the ads/school councillors make them out to be, but you should definitely know what you’re getting into every single time.
And you should be prepared to be responsible for your actions, whether you remember them or not.
