Good Bye 2011
I’ve got my orange soda, Mitch, a homemade spinach dip (assembled by yours truly), $15 in spending money, a NOH8 shirt, rent paid, a few conversation starters and the rest of my life ahead of me.
What more could I need?
I spent this year preparing my entry into the entertainment industry and it all starts tomorrow.
Keep an eye on this page. It’s at a point now where absolutely...
squareular asked: you're probably the least egotistical person that i've come across on tumblr thus far. it's a pretty egotistical platform, but you're doing it the right way - that's what i'm trying to go for too. go you.

The Song Right Below This?
Press play before you read on.
I hope you all listen to this again at some point during your New Years celebrations. And think about me. Then think about how much you accomplished this year. Then force yourself to be optimistic and think about it again. Then be proud of yourself. Then think about me again. Just for a second.
Then think about love. And raise your glass to that special...

My New Years Challenge To You
Have more than 50% of the content on your blog be original.
Write poetry, thoughts, opinions, reviews, letters, etc. Paint. Draw. Scan your hand. Do something indie. Take pictures. Express yourself. Design something. Showcase something. Be proud of something. Ask opinions on something. Take chances. Risk your pride. Seek out your audience.
We’re creative beings. Scientists, this includes...

My Thoughts On Death
The day I die will probably be one of the most interesting days of my life. It’s not an “I can’t wait” suspense, but I am curious.
The inability to understand death has a strange effect on society.
Some of us choose to whole heartedly believe in religion, hoping for 72 virgins, golden streets, or our own little planet to take care of. Others stubbornly await an abyss of...

Christmas Dinner 2011
There’s a bit of back story to this. First, know that two years ago I cooked Thanksgiving dinner (two turkeys and all the extras, followed by an Oreo cheesecake) for about 20 people in an apartment sized kitchen and everything turned out great. Second, know that my Grandma broke her foot a week after my ankle snapped, is still in pain/a moon boot AND she’s lived long enough to think...

strawberrysauce asked: I want the scarf! But not simply because I love scarves (although I do) - but because I know you live extremely far away from me and getting mail from someone halfway across the world sounds like the coolest thing ever. So, how 'bout it? ;D

A Poem For Mitch
Mitch is the only person I know who’s able to make poetry cool.
Here is my homage:
Surround by bras, you drunkenly rolled, Up and down some girls door like a bounty fresh pole, I knew in that moment (well maybe weeks after), A friendship would form, I should live with that gaffer, You accepted my offer and bunked up down the hall, We discussed favorite movies and then watched them all, [All of...

Merry Christmas
I suppose I too should write a blog about the meaning of Christmas.
The time of year when we passive-aggressively tell each other what to celebrate and why, when people either put up with their families or accept that they won’t get to see them, when we all hope for a taste of the weather conditions that once wiped all life off this planet and when every CEO of every corporation should be...

Malarky
My first time on a computer in weeks and I’ve immediately figured out who stole my computer (and notebooks full of web series details). And the answer was right under all of our noses the whole time.
www.facebook.com
It appears, if you’re not signed in, Facebook is advertising “Tell your life story with a new kind of Facebook profile”.
And guess what they’re...

Bret Jolliffe 2012
I’ve decided next year is the year I go big. You can only take so many baby steps before you want to start running.
I did the ‘film school’ thing, the ‘finish a script’ thing, the ‘pitch a script’ thing, the ‘get a job in the industry’ thing and the ‘YouTube’ thing.
And my year end report? $40 I can’t access and 8 likes on my Facebook fan page. It’s time for a new thing.
That thing, of course,...

75 - 85 Consequences
When you’re writing a script, it’s smart to align your first draft with the basic three act structure. Different theories have tried to simplify it down even further, and on the day I created this tumblr I happened to have a book full of these theories right beside me.
Page 75 to 85 is when your protagonist deals with the consequences of act 2.
It’s common to wish for a clean...

The Birds & The Boys Talk
In my opinion, people have misinterpreted the idea of birds, loyalty and how love works.
We’ve all heard some or many variations of “If you love something, let it go and if it’s meant to be it will come back.” I call BS, no matter how nice it looks in Helvetica over an instagram photo.
Here are two things wrong with that situation:
Why did it leave? If something...

Poems.
I’ve been looking through an old computer and found a bunch of my sister’s religious childhood poetry.
Until she sees this and gets mad, I’d like to share some with you.
Poem 1: Why
Why walk when we could run
Why sorrow when we could be having fun
Why a little when we could have a ton
Why lose when we could have won
Why have a crumb when we could have a bun
Why be in shadow...

Quick Updates
1. My computer was stolen. This mean three things:
1a. I won’t be able to update tumblr as often.
1b. My web series ideas may be stolen. The odds are super low, but just know that I will be boycotting the project on this blog if I see it happen.
1c. When I do update tumblr, it will usually involve my web series. So if you’re sick of hearing about it, unfollow me until mid to late...

Dear Vancouver Residents
On February 1st, I’m going to start filming a web series titled “Your Story, Vancouver”.
Here’s a teaser trailer: http://youtu.be/91DePWq6gvI
(That, and more, can be found at www.youtube.com/YourStoryVancouver)
First off, I’m still tracking down six leads. I’ve only locked in two. These roles are going to be a big commitment for no immediate pay off, with the potential of zero pay off all...

A Cautionary Christmas Tale
Here’s some Christmas Tree related advice for the holiday season.
Don’t invite a cute girl over to retrieve a tree out of the wild with you. Don’t refer to the lame park three blocks away from your residential house as ‘the wild’. Don’t buy a hatchet in advance. Don’t let your socially retarded friend overhear your plan. Don’t acknowledge him when...
